Professor Arun Mohanty, who holds a PHD in economics, teaches at the Centre for Russian and Central Asian Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Professor Mohanty has taught at Moscow State University, Moscow City Pedagogical University and Moscow Institute of Management and is closely associated with leading think tanks in Russia. He worked at the Moscow Radio world service for seven years in various positions and was the Moscow correspondent of India Abroad News Service (IANS) for several years. He is a member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Russian Academy of Social Sciences and the Congress of Political Scientists of Russia. His primary research interests include Russian economic transformation, foreign and security policy of Russia, developments in Central Asia and Indo-Russian bilateral relations.
A recipient of Russia’s prestigious Pushkin State Award, Professor Mohanty is the director of the Delhi-based Eurasian Foundation and Chief Editor of the research journal Eurasian Report. He is a member of the International Coordination Committee of the Vienna-based world public forum on Dialogue of Civilizations, has published 17 books and co-authored several more with Russian scholars. During his more than two decades stay at Moscow, Prof. Mohanty has contributed more than 30 chapters to edited volumes and hundreds of his articles on developments in the Soviet Union, post-Soviet Russia, the CIS and Indo-Russian relations have been published in refereed research journals and periodicals.
