Muthusami Kumaran

Dr. Muthusami Kumaran is the Associate Professor of Nonprofit Management and Community Organizations, Department of Family, Youth & Community Sciences, College of Agricultural & Life Sciences, University of Florida. He has dedicated the better part of his career to enhancing the nonprofit/NGO sector’s organizational management capacities and operational outcomes. As a ‘pracademic’ during the past 25 years, the main focus areas of his teaching, research, and outreach efforts have been on strengthening nonprofit/NGO management capacities. He teaches advanced courses on various aspects of nonprofit/NGO management. He is a Senior Fulbright Scholar and conducts research on operations, impacts, and capacity needs of nonprofits/NGOs in various countries. He has trained more than 3000 nonprofit/NGO leaders in nine countries across the world through grants from the US Department of State and Foundations. He is an avid environmentalist and served on a Global Environmental Advisory Council. He currently serves on the Boards of three American nonprofits and an international NGO. Dr. Kumaran is the recipient of several awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award for service to the NGO sector. Prior to his academic career, he worked as an official of a state government agency in the US and as the Director of Research with a nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., US.
Dr. Kumaran earned a PhD in Urban & Public Affairs from the University of Louisville, US and a PhD in Public Administration from the University of Madras, India.
