Sanjukta Basu

Born in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, Sanjukta Basu is a New Delhi-based, 42-year-old writer, photographer and feminist scholar. She has worked as a communications consultant in non-profit organisations and has practiced law. She currently writes on women’s issues, politics and minority rights. Her literary and photographic work has been published in media outlets across the globe, including in Firstpost, Huffington Post, DailyO, Outlook and The Wire. One of India’s early digital activists since 2006, her articles have received over 700,000 unique page views.

In 2009, she was awarded the TED Fellowship for blogging and digital activism. She is also a public speaker and trainer. She is part of the Karwan E Mohabbat collective led by Harsh Mander and has travelled across India to document stories of hate crimes. At present she is pursuing a Ph.D in gender studies.

She worked with Shantonu Sen for a year to research and write this book.
